What are the symptoms you HAVE TO HAVE in order to have mononucleosis?
  • Jessica replied on Sat, 22 May, 2010
I can't imagine you would have mono with no fever. When you get sick, your WBC count goes up in order to fight off the infection, and you get a fever for the same reason. You would more than likely have a fever and a sore throat and be feeling very tired and sick.

My poor 8 yr old son had it this year. He had a fever for only one day but has had major sore throat and tonsils and tiredness. Mono is a virus that effects the lymph nodes and Perhaps swells the spleen and liver as well. A simple ultra sound will tell if spleen is swollen and if you do sports I urge you to get a ultra sound! If it is swollen do not play sports (rupture may happen). It will go down in time no problem!!! My sons ultra sound was great meaning No swollen spleen!!!! Mono is so similar to a regular cold that it is usually not diagnosed. Our doctor said that 85% of us have had mono by the time we are an adult. Most commonly your neck is swollen and the tonsils and you are major tired. Some doc's do a finger blood test but that is very inaccurate. My son's finger blood test was negative. Two days later an accurate blood panel was taken and showed the real results. Also don't the vultures take out you tonsils unless you really need it! Mono is supposed to be hard on the throat. So get a blood panel to prove its mono and then an ultrasound to okay the spleen for sports and rest, rest rest! Good luck
